From Pieterburen you can discover 2 completely different Wadden Islands. The Frisian island of Schiermonnikoog by boat from Lauwersoog is 25 km away and the German island of Borkum by boat from the Eemshaven is 30 km away. Perfect for a day trip.
In about 45 minutes you reach the Wadden island of your choice. On the ferry dam of Schiermonnikoog, the bicycle that you may have reserved in advance is already available. A beautiful old train with wooden wagons departs from the ferry port on Borkum to the north of the island. On Schier a small village with fishermen's houses and quite a bit of entertainment, on Borkum a small town with stately Kurhausen on the North Sea. Both have beautiful sandy beaches, on Schiermonnikoog you get there via the dunes, Borkum has a beautiful lively boulevard directly on the beach. Furthermore, they are both wonderful islands for cycling or walking, North Sea side or Wadden side, it does not matter, both have their charm.
